Product updates: Named Ranges, Select from Range, and 6 new Templates

Matt Robinson
co-founder & CEO

As the year comes to an end, we’re happy to share the release of new features designed for working with ranges of cells in formulas, Select, and Multiselect data types. In addition, we've published new templates for use cases ranging from fundraising to construction project management, budgeting, and more.

Named Ranges

With named ranges, you can now assign a name to a contiguous range of cells for easy reference in formulas.

Cap Table with Shareholder Database Spreadsheet

As in traditional spreadsheets, each worksheet can have any number of named ranges defined. In addition, Spreadsheet.com now fully supports named ranges when importing from, and exporting to, Excel.

For more details, see the new Named Ranges article in our Help Center.

Select and Multiselect option enhancements

We also added the ability to define Select and Multiselect options from a Named range or a manually selected Range of cells from any worksheet in the current workbook. Similar to data validation in traditional spreadsheets, this allows you to more easily share and reuse options between columns and ranges of Select and Multiselect cells.

Select options from a range in Spreadsheet.com

The new Source field in the Select and Multiselect data type dialog provides three different choices for how options are defined, as shown below:

For more details see our help center articles on the Select and Multiselect data types.

New Templates

We've added eight new templates to the Spreadsheet.com Template Gallery for a variety of use cases.

For example, the new Construction Product Plan template is designed to help construction project managers organize tasks, people, and items. This can be used in conjunction with the Construction Budget template to help construction project accountants manage the budget throughout a project.

Construction Project Plan Spreadsheet Template

The new Implementation Plan template is designed for planning, tracking, and managing each stage of a software, process, or other type of implementation project. Gantt and Kanban views help users visualize the progress and status of tasks.

Implementation Plan Spreadsheet Template

The new Fundraising Due Diligence Checklist template serves as a data room that you can share with your team and investors after signing a term sheet, allowing you to cut as much as a week off of your closing process. This template was adapted from a checklist originally created by Jason Kwon, former GC of YC Continuity, after being involved in "hundreds of financings with nearly every law firm and VC fund in the valley."

Other newly published templates include:
